McKinley Park Today

The question

Neighborhood news has thinned out across Chicago. The City still publishes what happens on every block, every day, in records few residents ever open.

Collect

Every morning the site pulls seven City data feeds for community area 59: 311 requests, crimes reported, traffic crashes, building permits, food inspections, new business licenses and transit ridership.

Analyze

Each number is a daily average over the latest four weeks the City has published, set against the same weeks a year earlier. When either count is too small to compare fairly, the front page leaves the change out.

Present

A front page of daily numbers with small trend lines, the stories that follow from them, a published standards page, and a label on every story saying how AI was used. The same numbers live as a dashboard at mckinleypark.info. Data powered by Ward Wise.
